Dragon Lunar Gala – Chinese New Year Celebration

February 16, 2024, Jimmy and his family organized the West Island’s very first Chinese New Year celebration, gathering communities from all over Montreal for a great night of food, drinks, prizes and entertainment. It was a wonderful evening spent with over 300 guests to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2024 and to welcome the year of the Dragon ( 接龍 )!

Jimmy Chan thanks his family, his wife Susan Woo, his team, and the gala’s wonderful, honorable Co-Chair Sandy Trinh, as well as his family members Judy Woo, Jessica Chan, Elizabeth Chan, Angela Chan, Matthew Chan, Michael Chan, Jonathan Chan, and MacKenzie Chan, for their support in making the first Lunar New Year Celebration Gala in the West Island a successful community event.

Special thanks to The Honourable Senator Victor Oh, who came all the way from Ottawa to share in the Lunar New Year Celebration. Jimmy and his family were so honored and grateful for The Honourable Senator Victor Oh’s wonderful, encouraging speech and his kind words to Jimmy.

Jimmy wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone from the communities. He wanted to thank the Mayors of the West Island, Dimitrios Jim Beis and Mayor Alex Bottausci; MNA Brigitte Garceau; MP Sameer Zuberi; Joan Lee from the West Island Black Community; Cynthia Waithe from Barbados House Montréal; Frank Baylis; and many friends from the city.

Thank you to all of his family and friends who came from everywhere, from Montreal, to support and share in this wonderful Lunar New Year Celebration together for a joyful, memorable evening of happiness!

A big thanks to his wife Susan, his family, and friends for their great support. Jimmy’s vision for the New Year Celebration Gala was to bring family and friends together and provide the opportunity to bring multicultural communities together to share in the Chinese New Year celebration. It took less than 4 weeks to promote and sell more than 300 tickets for this Gala, from selecting the Olympia Reception Hall to inviting the dynamic “The Soaring Eagles Lion Dragon Dance Team 加拿大光輝龍獅體育會” all the way from Toronto to perform at our Gala. Jimmy was very happy to have everyone share a wonderful, memorable evening experiencing the dynamic Lion Dance and the excitement of the free gift raffle draw brought to you by the event’s wonderful Co-Chair, Sandy Trinh.

An incredible addition to the evening was Jimmy’s latest acquisition – the launch of a Chinese Community TV program under ICI International Television.

Since 2019, ICI International Television has approached me to create a Chinese Community TV program.

Jimmy finally decided to sign the contract with ICI International Television in September 2023 to serve the community with news and entertainment.

Jimmy has been honored with the trust and encouragement the community has given to him on this project.

Jimmy created the program “Fortune Cookies Production,” which is more than a TV program. It is a platform to showcase the culture, history, and the vibrant activities in and around Montreal’s Chinatown.

Each week, the Jimmy will bring insightful interviews and stories, celebrating Chinese heritage and sharing it with a broader audience.

This Gala was not just a celebration but a statement of Jimmy’s commitment to cultural preservation and community engagement that needs your support.

A huge thanks to Jimmy’s family and team for all their dedicated hard work in achieving their “First Edition of the Lunar New Year Celebration Gala, making it a fantastic success.

Jimmy’s next exciting event will be the Miss Chinese Montreal Pageant 2024. The date will be released soon!

Special message from Jimmy himself:

I grew up in Montreal’s Chinese community in Chinatown. I am the president of two Chan Family Associations in our Montreal Chinatown: “Chin Wing Chun Tong Family Association 陳穎川堂” and the “Gee How Tong Association 至孝堂.”

As a community leader, I have dedicated my life to promoting and preserving our rich Chinese culture and heritage in Canada, as I am a proud Chinese Canadian. This sets an example for the next generations to continue our legacy as proud Chinese Canadians for generations to come.

My journey as an award-winning documentary filmmaker of “Saving Chinatown” and a committed community leader has led me to my latest endeavor – the launch of a Chinese Community TV program under ICI International Television.

Since 2019, ICI International Television has approached me to sign up for the Chinese Community TV program.

I finally decided to sign the contract with the ICI International Television program in September 2023 to serve our community with news and entertainment.

I have been honored with the trust and encouragement our community has given to me on this project.

I created the program named “Fortune Cookies Production,” which is more than a TV program. It is a platform to showcase our culture, history, and the vibrant activities in and around Chinatown.

Each week, we bring insightful interviews and stories celebrating our heritage and sharing it with a broader audience.

On Friday, February 16th, 2024, at the Olympia Receptions Hall, 3855 A Boul. Saint-Jean, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC, I hosted the first grand Lunar New Year Celebration Gala in the West Island, coinciding with the official launch of our Montreal Chinese community TV program at the same gala. More than 300 guests came together to celebrate in the West Island. It was a memorable and spectacular experience for many different cultural communities to learn about our Chinese culture and welcome the Year of the Dragon.

This event was not just a celebration; it was most importantly a statement of our commitment to cultural preservation and community engagement, needing everyone’s support.

It was a great opportunity to share the Chinese New Year cultural experience from our West Island Chinese community with the broader Montreal community, bringing people from Montreal, Chinatown, and the West Island together for the celebration.

My vision is to bring multicultural communities and people together to support each other’s culture in diversity and inclusion, celebrating friendships.

It’s really about engaging the community, bringing them together as one with other Canadians so that Canadians can recognize and appreciate Chinese culture in Canada. I have been organizing our community activities program, from cultural festivals to sports, and scholarships to encourage and recognize the importance of our young Chinese professionals. It’s a great initiation for new Chinese immigrants to be well-received in Canada, encouraging them to join our community activities that I have created with my team, to welcome new Chinese immigrants to Canada, making them feel at home in their new home, Canada.
