Jimmy Chan presented with the King Charles III Coronation Medal

Montreal’s Jimmy Chan, is one of over 30 recipients this year to receive the most prestigious King Charles III Coronation medal this afternoon, Saturday, March 22nd in the Pierrefonds-Dollard borough, presented by Pierrefonds-Dollard’s MP, Sameer Zuberi.

Jimmy Chan, had the great honour today to be recognized and awarded by Pierrefonds-Dollard’s Member of Parliament (MP) Sameer Zuberi, at Cégep Gérald-Godin in Ste-Geneviève, for his continuous and enriching active volunteer efforts in the Montreal community. His devotion to growing friendships between Canadians and the Chinese Community have filled his days with joy and dedicated efforts by bringing charity, love and compassion through entertainment and a sense of giving. His ongoing devotion doesn’t only remain in creating connections between the aforementioned but with all Canadians working together as ONE. With the help of his family and supportive friends and colleagues, his organization ‘One World, One Humanity Mission‘ serves to enrich the lives of not only Canadians but on a worldwide scope.

What does it mean to have One World, One Humanity ? As per their website, “We are all the same person, the same human being, through space and through time, beyond gender and any other collective identity. More than ever, the motto of the North South Centre “One World, our World” means today “One Humanity, our Humanity”.”

Jimmy Chan is a Community Leader and Philanthropist who`s vision focuses on cultural preservation, heritage and global community building. He’s the visionary Founder and Organizer behind the Montreal International Dragon Boat Race Festival, the Montreal International Martial Arts Festival, the Montreal Chinatown Multicultural Festival, and Drumming Festival to celebrate the annual Asian Heritage Month, as well as being the Founder, Teacher, Coach, and Sifu for the Montreal Chan Lions Dance Club. He is also the creator of the 5-part documentary in the making; Saving Chinatown.

Jimmy, who was supported by his family and friends today at Cegep Gérald-Godin in Ste-Geneviève, humbly received his medal and recognition at 3h40pm ET. This was the fourth of five events Jimmy was attending today. Between Community Board Meetings with Round Tables, the Chan Foundation (Gee How Oak Tin Association of Montreal), Lion’s Dancing, Drumming or Dragon Boat events, charity events and so much more, who can surely keep up?

Jimmy Chan and wife Susan Woo’s friends join the celebratory day to cheer on their nominated recipient winner.

Another friend of Jimmy’s, and who is also known in the Montreal Community for her yearly END PKD walkathon, is none other than PKD activist, Luisa Miniaci-Di Leo. Luisa, who is recovering from an organ transplant that took place on August 30th, 2024, is also on the recipient list for her ongoing dedication to Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) awareness, overall health and community.

Other Members of Parliament who were present included, Candidate for Leader of the Liberal Party, Frank Baylis, Member of the National Assembly of Quebec (MNA) Brigitte Garceau and Borough Councillor Danielle Myrand (Île Bizard-Ste-Geneviève). Miss Chinese Montreal`s (2025), Queen Louese Hu, was also present during the ceremony to celebrate Jimmy`s achievements and honourable mention.

According to Queen`s (University) Journal on March 21, 2025, there are among 30,000 national recipients of the King Charles III Commemorative Medal in 2025.

The medal, introduced in 2023 to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III as King of Canada, is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to Canada or the broader globe. – Queen`s University Journal.
